Chiramó - Paper Jewelry
Life artist, Paper jewelry maker
Carmen's work is love made visible. You can feel it, taste it and experience it. Carmen Orășanu is a bead maker, jewelry artisan and amateur photographer based in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania, Romania, commuting to Tuscany for once in a while. Creating one-of-a-kind jewelry is her way of celebrating the unique expression of femininity in each and every woman.
Carmen started playing with paper in 2010 New Year’s Eve when she came across this technique by chance, searching something else on the internet. She was fascinated from the very first moment by the idea of turning a waste into a jewel. Carmen started right away making her first paper beads from the magazines she had at hand. That’s how she stepped into the new year of 2011: with glue on her fingers, great enthusiasm in her heart and many new ideas in her mind. Slowly but firmly this chance discovery would wave itself into the fabric of her life reshaping it completely.
That’s how The Mistique Moth was born. For the next 6 years, Carmen had great satisfactions witnessing the natural evolution of her skill in crafting the paper beads and jewelry and the way things have came together and developed. While mass media was very interested in talking about and showing this strange technique* of making jewelry, people were rather reticent and Carmen had to have patience in getting women make friends with the paper beads and accept them into their jewelry boxes.
For Carmen, the fascination went on and on and even now, after 9 years of doing it, she is still amazed seeing the metamorphosis of a simple sheet of useless paper into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry.
The year 2017 brought the winds of change into Carmen's studio and Chiramó was born.
The word Chiramó derives from the greek “kira mou” that means “my lady”. I liked the way it sounded but she chose it because in a very subtle way it reminds her of her origins. Carmen was born in Braila, a small Danubian town in Romania who once knew the glamour and glory of a famous harbor-city where people from many Balkan nations would mix and trade. Among others, the Greeks would establish there in large numbers and influence the evolution of the city as well as that of language. The most relevant and well-known example from literature is the novel Chira Chiralina written by Panait Istrati, a writer born in Braila in that time.
Chiramó Jewelry was born from the desire to take the craft of The Mistique Moth to the next level. Turn it from a hobby to a full-time job, a business, paying more attention to all the details implied: the materials, the design, the logo, the package as well as to online presence and attendance to specific fairs and events in Romania and abroad.
Apart from the ethics, Carmen also like you to choose Chiramó jewelry for its style, for the comfort and ease it brings, and for the joy of wearing it. That’s way she put a constant effort in becoming a better person and a better artist, aiming at giving you the best quality product she can give.
