Klezmer, an irresistible mix of Balkan melodies, Yiddish songs and Gypsy music. Exciting and moving. Ideally suited for theater or festival and if there is something to celebrate.
Thirty years ago, a number of Dutch conservatory musicians fell in love with an unknown type of music: klezmer. Breathlessly listening to illustrious bands from the USA, they decided to establish the first Dutch klezmer band. As non-Jews they chose the name Di Gojim. The rest is history ....
After many theater performances and international festivals, the band is still full of energy. Eight men and a lady guarantee an intense musical experience.
Jaap Mulder (clarinet, sax and vocals) is the frontman, with next to him Alysia van Horik. She has a great voice and a lot of humour.
Sjaak van der Reijden (trumpet, piano),
Eric Roelofsen (trombone, tuba),
Vincent Knaven (percussion),
Jacob Sijtsma (accordion) and
Tseard Nauta (doublebass, banjo and gitar).
The new generation of klezmer musicians is represented by two sons: Douwe Nauta (violin) and Ruben Mulder (keys). They were given the klezmer music with the spoon. These guys often step on stage.
Di Gojim, that's a treat for a swinging and steaming concert; vocal cabaret and instrumental fireworks.
