EMERGENCE (UK - Wales)

Emergence is an arts and sustainability collective based in Wales. We make art with one agenda: to change the world. Co-created by theatre-maker Fern Smith in 2010 in response to a growing concern that the arts are simply not responding to the environmental and spiritual crisis that human life is causing all across our world, Emergence advocates creative practice for a sustainable future through hosting artful events and gatherings. They commission artworks, host conferences and workshops, create land journeys and pilgrimages, write and publish documents and reports - all addressing the key issue of our time: the art of living well within the ecological limits of a finite planet.

EMERGENCE

Emergence is a collaborative project that advocates creative practice for a sustainable future through hosting artful events and gatherings. These activities focus on finding inspiring ways to;

(1) live the future now

(2) acquire information and practical skills which enable us to put our principles into practice

(3) develop effective ways to communicate this to a wider audience

(4) resource ourselves to keep on doing the work that is needed to be done

(5) re-enchant ourselves with each other, with art and with life .

They are committed to a relational, values-based approach emphasizing a need for experimentation, spontaneity and diversity which sees us all as ‘co-creators’ of the future rather than as ‘co-dependents’ reliant on specialist knowledge or heroic leadership.
