Ditch the Supermarket
Farmigo is the world’s first online farmer’s market, connecting people and communities – such as workplaces, schools and community centers – with local farms to provide a personalized online marketplace for local, fresh-from-harvest food. The company was founded in delivering technology to farms to help them manage their community supported agriculture (CSA) subscriptions. Three years later, hundreds of farms are using the technology and Farmigo has connected them to over 3,000 delivery sites, including Google and Twitter offices. Farmigo is now building on this foundation by expanding the traditional model – where farm’s sell a subscription to their farm for the season – to offer the selection of a farmer’s market through an easy, online order system, utilizing the power of the web to make it accessible to everyone.
Farmigo kickstarts local food communities at workplaces, schools and community centers, which are the catalyst for making this new food system work. Members shop their farmer’s market online, and then have their fresh produce delivered directly to their Farmigo community site. They receive fresh, local food that was harvested within 48 hours of delivery and has traveled less than 100 miles. This new model will accelerate the access to locally harvested food because it allows more selection and payment options than the typical CSA, and the farms deliver that selection directly to the community, eliminating the need to travel to the weekly farmer’s market.
