Amsterdam based jazz singer Ilse Huizinga is one of Holland’s well known jazz singers. She recorded 6 critically acclaimed albums - featuring selections of jazz standards - and she is currently working on a new CD with contemporary songs, written by her husband, pianist and composer Erik van der Luijt. She regularly performs throughout Europe and is a highly sought after vocal coach. What makes Ilse Huizinga different? They say it’s that combination of her unique sound - her rich and soothing tone, her warm, clear and full alto, the way she personalizes the songs she sings, her distinctive timing, her melodic improvisations, her audience appeal. Ilse is a fun and sensitive singer with a voice and personality that reaches out to you.
Her voice is described as ’warm and sexy’, ’clear and pitch-perfect’, ’a voice of which other singers only dream: full, clear and sensitive’. (Nouveau) ’She manages to fit entire octaves into a single syllable - great that the poignant lyrics meanwhile never suffer’. (De Volkskrant). Ilse studied jazz vocals at the Amsterdam Conservatory, after finishing her degree in Public Administration at the University of Amsterdam.
Ilse is featured in „The Jazz Singers, the ultimate guide’ by Scott Yanow - as one of the 500 best jazz vocalists in the international history of jazz singing. She performed in the Dutch Television Hit series ”Gooische Vrouwen” and she appears regularly on RTV, and in magazines and papers.
