Making sure money works for society
Positive Money is a movement to democratise money and banking so that it works for society and not against it. Our current financial system has left us with the highest personal debt in history, unaffordable housing, worsening inequality, high unemployment and banks that are subsidised and underwritten with taxpayers’ money. We believe that these problems have a common root: money. Their Board of Advisors includes economics professors, authors, entrepreneurs and people from the financial industry who know that something needs to change.
Positive Money is campaigning for the power to create money to be used in the public interest, in a democratic, transparent and accountable way, rather than by the same banks that caused the financial crisis. They are based in the UK but have sister organizations in 17 countries. They suggest 3 majors steps: (1) Take the power to create money away from the banks, and return it to a democratic transparent and accountable process. (2) Create money free of debt and
(3) Put new money into the real economy rather than financial markets and property bubbles.
