A Bakery with a social mission
Rubicon Bakery works with people who are coming out of prison, off the streets, with drug addiction problems and are ready to turn their lives around. They offer employment, training and support to anyone ready to work. They don’t ask about a person’s past mistakes. When the nonprofit sold the bakery, there were 14 people working part time. They now employ 100 people full time and offer competitive wages, health benefits, paid vacation and more. They bake cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and tarts among other desserts. Everything is made and finished by hand with all-natural ingredients. Their baked goods are found in many of the best supermarkets.
Sometimes people make poor choices in their lives. They should not be punished forever for that. When someone is coming out of prison and has a felony on their record, most employers simply throw their job application in the trash. But when people are ready to turn their lives around, they are very appreciative to be accepted, to be given a second chance, to learn new skills, to have people respect them. Rubicon Bakery offers that second chance. Because of this, our employees are more dedicated than in your average food manufacturing facility.
