Innovations for the local economy
Started as a research and development program, Social Trade Organisations cooperating in the STRO network have created a set of innovative approaches to solve economic and development problems that is based on a theoretical background of sustainability and social justice and supported by state of the art software. These new ways of working with money, and altering the very concept of money within the market place, are being implemented by a wide range of organizations ranging from producing cooperatives, micro-financial institutions, groups of entrepreneurs, and governments.
Henk van Arkel is convinced that, right now, we have the chance to make a breakthrough to a different kind of currency. For an interview in The Optimist Magazine he mentioned: “Many people think you can’t modify the playing rules of the monetary system in our world.” To his mind that is a huge misunderstanding. Van Arkel argues that we have forgotten that money is a social construct, hence wholly malleable and changeable. According to him money no longer must lead to yet more inequality and environmental damage. It can also produce stronger and more altruistic communities. How? Van Arkel will be telling all in this webinar. Hear more about the groundbreaking work by STRO and their initiatives that can make a break-through to form a local, sustainable economy."
