Buddha & Beyond
Meaningful Travel Guide to the Himalayas
Buddha & Beyond is a travel agency for pocket-size cultural and spiritual trips to the Himalayas; trips in which feeling, experiencing and simply Being There are central values. Buddha & Beyond organises tailormade trips and guides small groups. Buddha & Beyond hopes that each journey encourages the traveler to think, to experience and to feel; that a landscape, temple or accidental encounter will inspire people in a mostly profound way.
Benti Banach is a Dutchman, from the very south of the The Netherlands, a son of Polish emigrants. Hence, the somewhat exotic name. In 1993, for the first time he experienced how diminutive and humble and, at the same time, fulfilled and peaceful one can feel in the Himalayas. The region, with its landscape, people and its Buddhism, has entranced me since and has never loosened its grip. In the following years, He has explored the mountain range from many different angles (Ladakh, Gharwal, Nepal, Spiti, Tibet, Sikkim, Kahsmir and Bhutan). The area he knows best is Spiti Valley in India. Since 2003 he has been teaching off and on at a school in the valley (rinchenzangpo.org). In 2008, his profound connection with the valley and its people lead to the book "In de schaduw van de Boeddha" (in the shadow of the Buddha). In 2010 the English translation was released, A Village called Self-Awareness.
