Making the world better by making things
Dutch Designer, graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands. As a graduate project, he looked at reducing e-waste, so he was exploring what can be changed in that space. The phone looked pretty logical to him, given how often we tend to replace our devices. So, he decided to make one video suggesting the idea of modular phones and inviting individuals and organizations to get engaged. The video got big with 21 million views on YouTube! And, a community developed around the idea. His interest is not in modular phones per-se, but more so in reducing waste. On this occasion, it turned out that mobile phones offered a good opportunity for a significant reduction of e-waste.
For the past two years Dave has been developing machines to recycle plastic waste, locally. The machines are developed using basic tools and materials. We share all the blueprints open source online. This way people around the world can build them. So Dave Hakkens enables everyone to build a little plastic workshop. Now share it into every corner of the world and let the recycling begin!
