Wilderness Guide and more
The uplifting & inspiring values of the wilderness experience can indeed be life-changing and Alan believes that very few people return from such encounters without a clearer understanding of their own selves, as well as a sense of balance in the world. The trail experience provides moments of personal clarity, triumph, tolerance and sustainability. Being sustainable though, may not only be associated with our environment; the plants, animals and water. It is also about the conservation of natural values such as tolerance, equilibrium, and an understanding of the people and the world around us. For many, a deeply spiritual experience and connection with God or your gods. There is a paradigm shift in thought from ‘what’s in it for me’, to ‘what’s in it for us.’ That’s how nature & society are connected and why it’s so crucial to cherish our wild places.
Alan McSmith has lived and worked as a professional wilderness guide and tracker for the past 25 years. Half a lifetime of exploring the wild-lands of six African countries on foot, by water and by road later, he is recognized as one of the most passionate and knowledgeable guides in the industry. But it is more than about guiding ... the inspiring lessons in nature and the teachings of many African mentor-trackers have left a profound effect. Wilderness now, is no longer a place but a way of living. For Alan, it's about sharing it all. To give back to the sacred circle through trails, safaris, training and meaningful encounters ... conserving the traditional & inspirational principles of nature.
